Thane: To address traffic congestion caused by illegal parking in the central area of Thane city, the municipal administration is planning to construct two new parking lots. The detailed plan has been prepared by the administration. According to this plan, the two parking lots will accommodate 628 four-wheelers and 418 two-wheelers. The administration aims to complete the construction of both parking lots within the next 18 months and has already begun taking steps towards this goal.
The central part of Thane city includes the railway station, Masunda Lake, Gadkari Rangayatan, and local markets. This area currently lacks sufficient parking facilities, leading to illegal parking on both sides of the roads. These vehicles create traffic obstacles and congestion.
Recognizing this issue, the municipal administration has been working on establishing parking lots in this area for several years. As part of these efforts, an underground parking lot has been set up and opened to the public at Gavdevi Ground, and another parking lot has been established at the Gavdevi Vegetable Market.
Following this, the administration has decided to build two more parking lots. These new facilities will be constructed on the Maharashtra Jeevan Pradhikaran land next to the Ram Ganesh Gadkari Rangayatan Theatre and on the site of the Shahu Market building in Naupada. The administration has provided an alternative site to the Maharashtra Jeevan Pradhikaran for this purpose, and plans have been prepared accordingly.
